We’re excited to announce that the North Texas College Access Network (TxCAN) recently joined the Commit! family after a successful two-year pilot period with Educate Texas.  TxCAN is a coalition of higher education admissions representatives, high school counselors and administrators, central district staff, college access providers, and a number of nonprofit organizations serving students in North Texas.  Over the past two years, TxCAN planned and executed two Super Saturday FAFSA/TASFA completion events, created an asset map of college access services in area districts, launched a college access data collection portal, and led a number of professional development and networking sessions for members.

As part of a recent strategic planning process, network members identified four new committees that will serve as the vehicles for collective impact in college access during the 2013-14 school year:

  • College Application Completion;
  • Parent/Role Model Engagement;
  • College Testing (SAT/ACT/Accuplacer); and
  • Financial Aid (FAFSA/TASFA).

If you, a member of your organization, or another colleague is interested in learning more and potentially joining one of the committees, please contact Sarah Jensen at sarah.jensen@commit2dallas.org, and she will send you next steps. We’re eager to meaningfully impact the number of Dallas County students enrolling and succeeding in postsecondary education, and we hope to have all hands on-deck in this endeavor.
